IN-PERSON & VIRTUAL THERAPY IN WESTCHESTER AND NEW YORK STATE
Individual therapy for Type A adolescents and young adults
Growing up in a high-pressure community likely gave you wonderful gifts: access to a strong education, friendships forged in sweat and tears, responsive coaching and tutoring, and opportunities and connections that opened doors for you later in your life.
Yet for many people these gifts are wrapped in layers of painful emotions and experiences, including:
Hiding some part of your identity that might have been stigmatized
Cheating in order to “excel”
Procrastinating and avoiding important tasks or deliverables
Self-loathing about some aspect of your appearance or identity
Crushing anxiety or low mood
Difficulty connecting to others in deep, authentic ways
Resenting your environment for pushing you too hard or not protecting you enough
Cultivating an image of perfection that feels phony and unsustainable
Engaging with social media or dating apps in a life-sucking manner
Being more close-minded or risk-averse than you desire to be
Your struggle is valid and real, and therapy can help you get off the “hamster wheel” you may find yourself on.
I view therapy as an investment in your time, money, and vulnerability, and my clients can expect me to come to session focused and present.
Appreciating the “both-and” of growing up as a high-achiever (or as a lower-achiever in a high-achieving family or community) is integral to the work I do.
I help my clients identify the parts of their background that have served them well, and find ways to mindfully build upon that legacy.
We also map out the things they are doing that are interfering with a more meaningful life, and begin experimenting with new behaviors.
This may involve learning a new skill, like stepping away from sticky and unhelpful thoughts, or it could have you designing a schedule that includes more rest and fun. My clients often don’t need to be encouraged to work harder or be more intense!
